Shadowlands Canine Training - A well trained dog is a happy dog and everyone loves a happy dog

About Us

My name is Sandy Allen and I am the owner and Head Trainer here at Shadowlands.  I am a Professional member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers (CAPPDT),  Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada (DPCC), Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada (AMCC), Alaskan Malamute HELP League (AMHL), and a Canine Good Neighbour (CGN)Evaluator.  I have almost15 years experience training all types of dogs.

I am currently owned by an 12 year old male (neutered) Rotti/GSD mix, a 7 year old female (spayed) short-coated Border Collie, and an 16 month old black and rust female Doberman pup.  Soon to add an Alaskan Malamute pup as well as another Doberman to the mix, both for the conformation rings, as well as obedience.

I have been previously owned by a Newfoundland mix, black lab/GSD mix and have grown up with Beagles, GSD's and Yellow Labs. I can honestly say dogs have been a large part of my entire life and I don't foresee that changing any time soon.

The expectations I have with my dogs may not be the same as you have or want in your dogs.  Although I choose not to have mine on the couch (I would end up the one on the floor!), I can teach you how and when to allow them permission without losing the "alpha" role.  I will also explain why we should 'ask' them to do something before meal times.  Why treats shouldn't just be given, they should be earned.

Here at Shadowlands, our main goal is to ensure the welfare of your four-legged family member.  In truth, a well trained dog is a happy dog.  Training means going out with the family on outings and is a welcome companion to all.

This also means your canine family member will be capable of accompanying the family on vacations as there are more pet-friendly hotels available than ever before.  Training ensures your dog will be comfortable and give consistent results regardless of where you are.  Achieving your CGN certification can go along way with some hotels, as it tells them that your dog is well behaved around other people and in new environments.

The canine community needs more good ambassadors out there showing the non-dog population that despite what the media reports, not all dogs or owners are bad.  The more polite canine family members there are, the more likely there will be more acceptance in more places for us to vacation at together.

That is good news as we all feel guilty at leaving our four-legged family members at home (or kennel etc) when we go on vacation!
