Shadowlands provides personal and private dog training for you and your dog in St. Catharines, Thorold, Welland, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Smithville and the surrounding Niagara Region here in Ontario.

My name is Sandy Allen and I am the owner and Head Trainer here at Shadowlands.  I am a Professional member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers (CAPPDT),  and that means I must (willingly) act according to their ethics and code of conduct. They have high standards in which I gladly abide by and exceed.  I am also a Canine Good Neighbour (CGN)Evaluator and have almost15 years experience training all types of dogs.

Whether they be a 12 week old pup, an adolescent or an older dog with some behaviour issues, I educate and provide positive reinforcement solutions to any issues you may have.  Including but not limited to: barking, jumping,  chewing, food aggression, pulling while on the leash, dog and/or people aggression.

Here  at Shadowlands, I use positive reinforcement (primarily clicker) dog training as I have found it to be extremely effective with very fast and reliable results.  However, I will never just have one weapon in my arsenal as not all dogs are the same, therefore neither can their training.

I have experience training all breed types, from the toys to the giants.  When it comes to training, all dogs are individuals and training methods must be individual also.  I look at the breed and temperament to ensure the right method is used.

Some dogs can be too food motivated so a toy may work better as a reward.  Praise for others may be more rewarding than a treat.  Every dog is a little different with their needs and motivators.  As a trainer, it is my job to figure out what their motivation is.

Experience has shown that the needs of dog owners have changed and that not everyone is able to fit their schedule to a fixed class.  Sometimes even location of a class can be an obstacle.  I have also noticed that dogs tend to learn faster in their own environment rather than in a new one with loads of distractions.  Therefore, I offer flexible scheduling that is catered to your needs, time table and I come right to your door.

Although each class is private and individual, it is important to socialize your pup and for life.  The more you socialize your dog with others, the less likely your dog will adopt bad behaviours toward other canines.

More importantly, you will be confident each and every time you take your dog out in public that he or she will be a well-behaved member of society.

Every dog is a working dog in some way, whether it be just as your companion or as a natural protector of hearth and home.  And dogs, like us, enjoy routines and patterns of behaviour.  Once trained, they will also know what we expect of them in any given situation and act accordingly with your direction.

Keys to a happy and healthy dog is exercise, training, good diet and lots of love.
